1964 Corvette Sting Ray Coupe

1964 Corvette Sting Ray Coupe
Arguably one of the finest original and factory-correct mid-year Corvettes in Australia, this car has been meticulously preserved. With only sympathetic restoration and no modifications, it presents and drives as it would have 60 years ago.
Assembled on December 23rd, 1963, in St Louis, Missouri, the car remains entirely code correct, with matching numbers throughout.
It was optioned with the rarest and most high powered carburetted small block engine available. Known as the "Special High Performance", the L76 (RE Code) engine was used by GM throughout their racing corvettes in 1964 and 1965. The L76 was in-fact the most powerful GM small block engine ever built, a ranking that was held until 2001 when the LS6 came out.
The L76 produced an astonishing 365 horsepower from factory in 1964. With a 6500 rpm redline, it came with an 11.1 compression, Holley four-barrel carburettor (code 4150) and a Duntov “30-30” high performance cam. The majority of Corvettes in 1964 were equipped with either a 250 or 300 horsepower 327ci engine that were shared with other Chevrolet models. There are less than 300-matching number L76 corvette equiped coupes in the world, and only a handful in Australia.
Furthermore, it has a matching numbers 4 speed close ratio Muncie transmission with the desirable 3.70 posi-traction differential, a factory correct OEM 1964 “high performance” 2.5 inch exhaust and muffler system (Code N11) and the original factory fitted FM Delco Radio (Code U69).
The car was originally sold with the unique spinner hub caps - part 3843387. The owner also purchased the optional Kelsey Hayes knock off wheels from the dealer. The car will come with both sets of wheels in excellent condition.
The Riverside Red paint (code 923) and chrome is of show quality, as is the original factory black interior (code 976).
