1966 Corvette Sting Ray Coupe
1966 Corvette Sting Ray Coupe
Just arrived to our boutique dealership, this stunning 1966 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray has been through an extensive nut and bolt rotisserie restoration by an extremely fastidious and passionate owner. The car was purchased by the previous owner out of the US back in 2008. The car had been stored since the 1980s but is a genuine big block car from the factory.
The mentality for the restoration was to order one of every single item available for a 66 Corvette and replace everything possible. The body of the car was stripped down and received any necessary repairs to the fibreglass. The lines of a C2 Corvette are just about perfect from the factory but a couple of subtle touches on this one are the addition of GTS rear quarter panels and a 67 big block hood. A huge amount of time was spent on getting all of the gaps on the car to be as perfect as possible with modifications made if required to get it right.
The car has been completely repainted inside and out in Corvette Torch Red by Semmits in Newcastle. The underbody and inner panel areas have been finished and painted to match. All of the chrome was refinished and there is a new grille up front. The pop up headlight were upgraded to automatically pop ip when the light are turned on. All new locks, latches and catches were used when putting the car back together. Completing the look externally is a set of 15' American Racing Torque Thrust wheels.
Open the door and you will see a completely refurbished interior finished in black. Supplied by Al Knock, the interior refurbishment included dash pads, carpet kit, roof lining, door panels and leather seats. All of the interior hardware was replaced along with new gauges, new clock, rebuilt and calibrated speedo by Rodgers clocks. Under the carpets have been fitted with Dynamite to insulate from noise and heat. There is an all new air conditioning system from Classic Auto Air which has been pressure tested for leaks but is ready to be charged with gas and used. Tunes which cruising are supplied by a Retrosound Bluetooth stereo system.
Under the bonnet is a highly detailed engine bay housing a big block 454ci V8 engine paired to a Muncie four speed manual transmission that has been completely overhauled. Power is fed to the rear wheels through the factory diff with 3.07 centre ratio. Exhaust gasses flow through a custom set of headers and into a 3' stainless steel exhaust. The car was put on the dyno at John Collins Dyno where it made 403hp at the rear wheels.
The entire chassis of the car was sand blasted, and powder coated while it was pulled apart. The front suspension has been completely upgraded to incorporate a composite mono spring, upgraded upper and lower controls arms (C4 Corvette style), new Bilstein shocks, large diameter sway bar and adjustable ride height. The steering has been upgraded to power assisted using a Steeroids system. To make sure it stops as well as it goes and steers, the car has been upgraded to four wheel disc brakes with drilled rotors.
This is a brand new build and has only recently been finished, travelling around 45 miles since completion. The detail in this car is evident if you look through the pictures from the body gaps and panel alignment, to the finish of the interior, and the detail in the engine bat and undercarriage. If you're in the market for a high end, mild customer big block C2 Corvette Stingray, look no further.
